Team TWC at Luvin Arms

By Karen Winkler

TWC staff recently dedicated time to volunteering at Luvin Arms, an animal sanctuary committed to providing a safe and loving environment for rescued farm animals. We rolled up our sleeves to clean and organize the barn kitchen, swept out the main barn, cleaned out and refreshed a chicken coop and a shelter for a mother cow and her calf, creating a clean and comfortable area for the pair to thrive. We also enjoyed visiting with the sanctuary’s pigs and goats, adding a fun and heartwarming element to the day.

For some of us, this wasn’t our first visit to the sanctuary, but we all appreciated a guided tour of the grounds, where we learned about the plight of the sanctuary residents and the challenges many animals face before finding refuge at Luvin Arms. Along the way, we saw familiar faces and met new residents—including two turkeys recently pardoned by Colorado Governor Polis—making the experience even more memorable.

Our clients were kind to give us this “day off,” for which we are grateful. Community service offers benefits that extend far beyond the immediate task at hand—fostering teamwork, strengthening connections within the community, and providing a sense of purpose and fulfillment. Helping others – whether people or animals – creates a ripple effect of kindness and compassion, reminding us that small acts can make a big difference. For us, the experience was not only rewarding but also a powerful reminder of the satisfaction that comes from giving back and contributing to something greater than oneself.
