Making a Difference

Corrine

Corrine inherited a fortune when her grandfather died, triggering a whirlwind of emotions. Like many others in her situation, she didn't want this newfound wealth to change her friendships or her life's other interactions. Corrine worked hard to hide her money.

One of her strongest desires has always been making a difference, especially in the lives of inner-city children. For years she served on the board of Child Protect, a nonprofit organization devoted to inner-city children. Like other board members, she donated money from time to time, but never enough to reveal the extent of her wealth.

In 2001 a shift in the economy dried up funding for Child Protect, endangering its very existence. The Wealth Conservancy, with whom Corrine had been working for years, helped Corrine fund Child Protect entirely out of her own assets, and all anonymously. TWC made all the arrangements for a stock transfer from her portfolio to Child Protect, keeping her identity safe, and continued to act as the go-between for all communications. As a board member, Corrine even helped the board of directors draft a "thank you" letter to the anonymous donor!

Every year since then, Corrine and The Wealth Conservancy annually investigate charities that are a good fit for Corrine's largess. TWC does the research, with Corrine's desires in mind. She makes the final decisions, and TWC puts her plan in action. Corrine and TWC, meanwhile, have determined a reasonable budget with which she may support worthy causes without threatening her own life goals. She is confident in her own well-being, proud of her ongoing healthy friendships, and she is making a huge difference in the world, in her own way.
